Search Engine Optimization Checklist for 2015

Although we have already made a nice notch into 2015, it’s never to late to be thinking about ways to revamp your search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. This is especially true if you are concerned about how the recent mobile friendly update to Google’s search engine algorithm will affect your website’s ranking.
With hundreds upon thousands of different SEO tactics on the internet to choose from, it can be hard to know which strategies will work best for your business. When taking into consideration some of the latest search algorithm updates, here are some SEO best practices to include on your 2015 checklist:

Interview your customers.
Let’s face it. Coming up with enthralling topics to write about can often be more challenging than writing the content itself. Seasoned writers, however, know to turn to one of the oldest tricks in the book: the interview.

Interviewing your customers can do wonders for your SEO strategy. When interviewing your customers, you’ll learn about their pain points and can identify keywords and phrases that the customer uses to explain his or her situation. If you interview enough of your customers, you’ll probably find some commonalities in these keywords and phrases used. Having this information can often come in handy even more so than keyword research from analytical data.

Create a content calendar.
If you’re someone that needs accountability (especially when it comes to content creation), make a point to start a content calendar. Every time you produce new, high quality content, you are sending a signal to search engines to check your website for updates. Having a regular schedule for publishing new content will help to hold you accountable to your publishing goals and will also help to ensure that you are creating new content frequently.

Link keywords and phrases from customer interviews to other pages on your website.
When you include links in your content, you are sending a message to search engines that defines what the content in that link is all about. Your goal should be to make your links so relevant and important that your website visitors will want to click on the links to get additional information about the topic. Finding ways to incorporate inbound links into your content based on related keywords and phrases used by your customers during interviews is an excellent SEO strategy for driving more qualified traffic to your website.

Optimize webpages for SEO.
Those keywords and phrases that you’ve identified from your customer interviews should also be built into your title tags, content, page URLs, and images to help tell search engines what your content is all about. Taking the time to optimize your webpages for SEO is one of the most effective ways to increase your search visibility.

So these are just a few search engine optimization tips that should absolutely be included on your 2015 “to do” list. You’ll find that many of these SEO tactics go hand-in-hand, so checking them all off of your list is not an overwhelming task.
