How to Set Smart Blogging Goals for 2018

Search engines like Google are constantly changing the way they rank content, which makes mastering SEO a full-time job. When updates to search algorithms happen, it’s easy to be left wondering how you should tweak your online marketing strategy. However, if you’ve been blogging all along, you can feel certain that you’re doing something right to benefit your search strategy.
How Does Business Blogging Benefit Your SEO Strategy?
Business blogging is one of the most critical aspects of your SEO strategy. In addition to serving your audience with relevant, value-added content, each blog post you publish creates a freshly indexed page on your website. We all know that search engines love fresh, original content, and maintaining an active business blog will communicate to your audience and search engines alike that your business is credible and an authority in its industry.

Your blog also provides your business with an opportunity to rank for relevant keywords and phrases. By naturally incorporating unique keywords and long-tail phrases into your content, you will attract more traffic to your website. As voice search continues to grow, consistently publishing quality blog posts that include natural language will greatly benefit your business.

How to Establish Smart Blogging Goals
After hearing about the many ways that blogging benefits your SEO strategy, you’re probably feeling fired up about growing your business blog in 2018.

While we all have the best of intentions when creating a business blog, writing and publishing content often gets put on the back burner when more pressing issues come up.

If you want to be successful with your business blog in 2018, here are several tips for establishing smart blogging goals:

1. Publish at least one blog post a week.
If you want to increase your traffic, you need to publish more blog posts. While publishing blog posts does not guarantee traffic, it creates more content for search engines to rank and drive traffic.

With blogging, consistency is more important than frequency. Setting a goal to publish one new blog post every Tuesday and sticking with it will benefit you more than attempting to write multiple posts a week with sporadic publishing dates.

2. Publish one blog post each month greater than 2,000 words.
While the typical blog post that you publish on your blog will range between 400 and 600 words, make a goal to publish one long blog post each month greater than 2,000 words.

The benefit of publishing longer content is that it provides you with an opportunity to dive into the subject matter and add value to your readers. Creating long-form content such as a “how to” guide allows you to demonstrate your expertise and dig deep into relevant questions that your audience has about your products and services.

Research shows that longer posts perform well in search results with the average length for the first 10 results on a SERP being between 2,032 and 2,416 words.

3. Feature one influencer in a blog post each month.
Influencers are critical to the success of your SEO strategy. Come up with a list of the top influencers in your industry. These influencers could be people that you know or movers and shakers in your industry that you admire. Then choose one influencer each month to feature in a blog post.

You don’t have to dedicate the entire blog post to the influencer. Often it’s more appropriate to either link to the influencer’s blog post or include a quote.

Once you publish the blog post, be sure to share it with the influencer. There’s a very good chance that he or she will share your blog post, which will result in more exposure for your business.

These three blogging goals are easily attainable and will greatly benefit for your SEO strategy in 2018 if you choose to implement them.
